Alaska Trophy Dall Sheep

The best opportunities in Alaska to harvest trophy Dall Sheep are in "limited draw" areas in Tok Management Area (TMA) and GMU 14C, Chugach State Park. Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) manages these area through a limited draw permit system. We assist clients in processing limited draw area applications. If not drawn for Tok or GMU 14C, we also offer trophy Dall sheep hunts in GMU 13, Alaska Range, a general hunting area.

Tok Management Area (TMA): Tok Management Area (TMA) was created in 1974 with the goal of providing Dall sheep hunters the opportunity to harvest large-horned, trophy rams in an uncrowded setting. TMA rams exhibit the second greatest horn length and the fourth greatest horn mass qualities of rams inhabiting seven mountain ranges in Alaska. Rams harvested in the TMA average 36 to 37.5 inches. Between 3 and 9 rams per year are harvested with horns greater than 40 inches, representing 8-17 percent of the harvest. The TMA is the only sheep hunting area specifically established for trophy ram management in Alaska. Tok Management Area (TMA) is a Dall sheep hunters dream.

Unit 14C, Chugach State Park Management Area:
This hunt lies in our backyard, east of Anchorage, and supports the world’s largest wild sheep population living adjacent to a modern city. About 90 percent of the sheep population resides within the 495,000 acre Chugach State Park, where wildlife receives nearly complete protection. In 1982, ADF&G implemented a limited draw permit system to control the number of hunters harvesting large rams in unit 14C. Primary access to unit 14C is through trails heads by long backpack style hunts with guide and packer. There are limited airstrips in unit 14C. Unit 14C is well renowned for big rams with heavy and deep curls. Dall sheep harvest average nearly 40 full-curl rams per year with several over 40 inches. Unit 14C is world class for trophy Dall sheep!

Unit 13, Alaska Range: Alaska Range provides some of the finest mountain sheep hunting and trophies in Alaska. You'll have a short air charter to a comfortable base camp. Typically, you can view rams from our base camps, approximately 1-1/2-hour hike from our camps and hunters must be able to climb 2,000 feet to reach the sheep. The combination of unspoiled wilderness, coupled with unsurpassed solitude, makes this one of the premier trophy Dall sheep units in Alaska. We limit the number sheep hunters so we can give you as much personal attention as possible. Other game available are: Grizzly Bear and Wolf.
